In the beginning
On January 6, 1956, several brethren from Patricia Lodge No. 91 agreed to form a new lodge under the Grand Jurisdiction of Alberta. The name of the lodge would be “Exemplar”, meaning "something to be copied".
Under the chairmanship of W Bro. Wilfred Davies, meetings were regularly held twice each month until dispensation was granted by the Grand Lodge of Alberta. Exemplar Lodge was instituted accordingly on Tuesday, June 12, 1956. MW Bro. S.C. Heckbert, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Alberta, presided on that occasion, assisted by RW Bro. W.S. Kent, District Deputy Grand Master of District 19. Notice of dispensation was read by MW Bro. E.H. Rivers, Grand Secretary and granted by MW Bro. S.C. Heckbert. The Lodge operated under dispensation until Monday, October 7, 1957, at which time Exemplar Lodge, No. 175, was constituted and consecrated in due and ancient form by the MW the Grand Master S.G. Bannan, assisted by Grand Lodge Officers.
